District 6580 has selected University of Southern Indiana graduating senior Cameron Davidson of Salem for its 2021-22 Global Grant Scholarship. The $40,000 award will help fund Cameron’s pursuit of a master’s degree in Global and International Studies from the University of Salamanca in Spain where he will focus on nationalism and conflict management.

Cameron was endorsed by the Evansville Morning Rotary Club and chosen by a team of 13 Rotarians from clubs in the district. Scholars must present a plan of study and a career commitment that align with one of The Rotary Foundation’s six areas of focus. Cameron’s area of focus is “peace and conflict prevention/resolution.”

During his years at Salem High School, Cameron participated in Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) and as a Rotary Youth Exchange student in Mexico. “This was my first international experience, and it left a lasting impression.”
Last year, he was an intern with the U.S. Embassy in Madrid, Spain.
As a Rotary global scholar, Cameron will be hosted by District 2201 in Spain.
After receiving his master’s, Cameron wants to work as a foreign service officer in the U.S. State Department and the Bureau of Human Rights, Democracy and Labor to promote peace and instill democratic values in Europe.

Cameron is District 6580’s fourth Global Grant Scholar. Previous scholars were Aubrey Seader who earned a master’s degree in Arts and Culture Management from Kings College London; Alexandra Starry, master’s degree in Public Policy from the Hertie School of Governance in Berlin; and Clarice Cross, who will complete her master’s degree in Community Economic Development from Waseda University in Tokyo later this year.

Cameron will begin his studies in Spain in September. He is awaiting final approval from The Rotary Foundation.
