Greetings from District Governor Kari Akin!

I would like to wish everyone a Happy Rotary New Year!

I’m honored and excited to serve as Rotary District Governor for District 6580 this year.

The Rotary International Presidential theme is to “Unite for Good.” This theme aligns beautifully with Rotary International’s mission statement: "Rotary brings together business and professional leaders to provide humanitarian service and to advance goodwill and peace around the world."

I believe this theme and mission statement call us to collaborate with others to advance the mission of Rotary.

I’m encouraging collaboration throughout this new Rotary year to UNITE with other clubs, districts, and non-Rotary entities. We are just an airport away from being connected to our 1.4 million Rotarian friends in over 33,000 clubs in over 200 countries. Although each club has its own culture, at the heart of each Rotarian is that drive to make the world a better place.

So, I encourage you to “Be a Rotarian of the World.” There are more similarities than differences among people. What everybody on the entire planet seems to desire is peace, health, happiness, and the safety of their families. When you participate in your Rotary Club’s service projects, or donate to the Rotary International Foundation, YOU Personally are taking that action to provide peace to people in your very own community and people across the globe. You’re providing clean water and education to families and children across the world. If you attended the All Indiana District Conference, you provided 15,000 nutritious meals to Indiana families facing food insecurities.

Because of YOU, we are one step closer to granting the wish of everyone on this planet for peace and joy, which can only be accomplished when families are not worried about the basics such as food, water, shelter, or safety. Rotary’s seven areas of focus—peacebuilding, disease prevention, clean water, maternal and child health, education, community and economic development, and protecting the environment—all help create this peace on earth.

Thank you for your service to Rotary and I can’t wait to meet each one of you at my club visits.

Indiana’s three Rotary districts select Cadet Noah Jager as 2024-25 Rotary Global Grant Scholar and The Rotary Foundation has confirmed Noah Jager as the 2024-25 All-Indiana Rotary Global Scholar. Noah recently graduated from West Point Naval Academy. The three Indiana Rotary districts chose Noah over five other outstanding finalists following January 20 interviews. Noah, endorsed by Bloomington Sunrise Rotary, will use the $40,000 award to pursue a master’s degree in International Peace and Security from King’s College London. Noah’s area of focus: Peacebuilding and Conflict Prevention. After receiving his master’s degree, Noah will serve as an officer in the U.S. Army for a minimum of five years on active duty and three years in the reserves. After serving in this role, he hopes to become a Foreign Area Officer (FAO), providing liaison with countries in an assigned region through policymaking, military cooperation, and community engagement. Later, Noah plans to return to Indiana where he will practice law and serve in the Indiana National Guard. Ultimately, he plans to address the needs of Hoosiers by serving in the U.S. Congress.
